Terra Festivalis: Mexico

This section was first introduced at SFS 2019. It explores the national cinemas which have recently become established on the international scene (Bulgaria, Israel). Mexican cinema reflects a difficult situation on the domestic scene, Mexican filmmakers frequently use dramatic sharp cuts or powerful metaphors. However, it is an undeniable fact that Mexican films regularly appear at the most prestigious film festivals around the world. The global interest in this territory and its film image is unflagging. This section will introduce eight representatives of the contemporary Mexican festival filmmaking, such as Our Times (2018) by Carlos Reygadas or Non Distinguishing Features (2020) by Fernanda Valadez.
